There are thousands of martial art schools and classes in sri lanka. mainly in colombo, wellawattha, dehiwala, maharagama, kottawa, nugegoda, kaduwela areas.most of them teaching karate, ju-do and also kung-fu.but sorry to say most of these classes don't have any educated trainers.doing the same thing again and again just for making money. but there are few of good training centers out there. so first you should decide what do you want to learn. if you want to learn it fast and just want to hit, learn boxing, wrestling or something. but if you want more than hit someone, try to learn something far beyond like karate or Kung-fu.
Karate
History
Although the island of Okinawa is regarded as the birthplace of
karate, it’s origins can be traced back further, to China. In the sixth
century, the legendary Indian monk Bodhidharma, is said to have travelled to
China to spread the
doctrine of Zen Buddhism. Having been refused an audience with the
emperor, he settled in the Shaolin monastery. Here he found the
monks too physically weak to follow his strict meditation regime. To remedy
this, be began to teach a series of physical exercises.
